No more license, but drunk at the wheel

Such alarming cases are on the increase: more and more drivers are getting behind the wheel even though their license has already been revoked for drunk driving. This is the sobering conclusion drawn by the police after the planned square at the weekend in Burgenland.

On the night of Sunday, 80 officers from the provincial traffic department and the district police commands carried out a focus check. 950 drivers were stopped and 740 breathalyzer or alcohol tests were carried out.

Just under two per mille
13 drivers had too much to drink and in two other cases drugs were involved. The inglorious front-runner was a 36-year-old in the district of Neusiedl am See, who was driving with almost two per mille.

An Aixam driver (42) in the district of Güssing had almost as much alcohol in his blood. Only a few days ago he had his confiscated driver's license returned, now the document is gone again! The corresponding charges were filed with the district administrative authority.

End of the line on the A3
A driver (46) from Hungary who was stopped on the A3 did not have a driver's license. The officers also detected 1.46 per mille alcohol in his breath. He was immediately banned from continuing his journey.

Highly dangerous
A driver who had already lost his driver's license some time ago for drunk driving was parked in a dangerous spot on the A3 with his defective car. During the test, his blood alcohol level was measured at 1.14 per mille. The procedure starts all over again.

No improvement
According to the statistics, cases like this are becoming more frequent. In the Oberpullendorf district, a 54-year-old driver was pulled over with a blood alcohol level of 1.2. He was also unable to produce a driver's license because the "pink paper" had already been taken from him many weeks ago for the same offence.

The anomalies among alcohol-impaired drivers show how important police checks are. This is the only way to reduce the potential danger to other road users in the long term.

In the Jennersdorf area, the police also noticed a cyclist (52) driving almost in a serpentine line. The reason: 1.8 per mille in his blood!

At almost 200 km/h
A Hungarian driver's license was confiscated on the spot. On his way home on the Burgenland freeway, the 23-year-old was speeding at almost 200 km/h instead of 130 km/h. He had been "flashed" with a laser gun.

A driver in Oberpullendorf was driving twice as fast as the speed limit. He is now facing driving license revocation proceedings. 461 reports were filed for speeding and a further 102 for tailgating.

Coach stopped
The police also stopped a coach from Montenegro with 74 passengers and two drivers on its way to Luxembourg. The journey records had been manipulated. Driving times of 15 hours without a driver card were found.

In addition, 250 other charges and 240 administrative penalties were issued as part of the operation.
