“An animal is often the only thing we have left”
For 13 years, "neunerhaus Tierärztliche Versorgung" has been looking after the four-legged friends of homeless people. The "Krone" animal corner supports this important institution with 4000 euros every year. Dedicated vets are also urgently needed to help keep this heartfelt project going.
Helmut L. uses the neunerhaus services again and again, for himself and for his dog Mia. "I can take her everywhere with me here. That's something very rare, unfortunately." Helmut L. and his dog Mia are inseparable. "It's like that for many people on the street. An animal is often the only thing we have left. My dog Mia always puts a smile on my face, despite the hard times."
Last friend and purpose in life
Once a person has fallen into the downward spiral of unemployment, poverty and losing their home, this is usually accompanied by increasing social isolation. Animals are a particular source of support for those affected. The pet is the last and often the only friend, a constant in everyday life. A companion who does not judge, but loves and trusts unconditionally.
At "neunerhaus Tierärztliche Versorgung" in Vienna, volunteer vets and assistants have been looking after the welfare of the animal companions of homeless and homeless people since 2010.
Dogs, cats and small animals are examined, given medical care, vaccinated, chipped and registered three days a week. The service - in cooperation with the Austrian Chamber of Veterinarians - is unique in Austria and demand is high. The number of animals treated has tripled since 2010.
For marginalized groups who are rejected and excluded by society, an animal is often their only friend. At 'neunerhaus Tierärztliche Versorgung', these important companions are treated free of charge. The animal corner is grateful to have been able to support this initiative for years. This is only possible thanks to the donations of our 'Krone' readers.
