Manhunt for perpetrator
Bank robbery in Innsbruck: Alert search underway!
A bank was robbed in the west of Innsbruck late Tuesday morning. The perpetrator - who is believed to be armed - managed to escape and apparently lost a lot of banknotes in the process. A manhunt launched immediately was unsuccessful.
The bank robbery took place at around 11.30 a.m. on Innsbrucker Mitterweg. The crime scene is a BTV branch. The perpetrator was wearing a mask at the time of the crime. After the robbery, the man fled on foot in the direction of the Innpromenade.
According to the police, the perpetrator was armed
"The previously unknown male perpetrator grabbed the female employee present in the counter and threatened her with a firearm," said the police. He also demanded in English that the safe be opened and that cash be handed over. "Other employees were present in the branch," emphasizes the police. After the employee had opened the safe with a key, she handed over the demanded cash. "The exact amount of the loss is not yet known," said the investigators. The woman remained unharmed.
Banknotes lost on the run
Passers-by reported that the police collected banknotes in the vicinity of the bank. "The perpetrator lost these during his escape," explained the police. Incidentally, the criminal probably fled via a nearby sports field. A manhunt was launched throughout the city and beyond. The police helicopter also circled over the Tyrolean capital. "The search has so far been unsuccessful", it was reported in the afternoon.
First description of the perpetrator
"The man, about 1.70 meters tall and 25 to 40 years old, was hooded and wearing light-colored jogging pants, dark outerwear with light-colored stripes at chest height and black sneakers with white soles. He was also carrying a black shoulder bag," reported the police.
The police are asking for any information or suspicious perceptions (Tel. No.: 059133/7- 3333).
