Leitner's own path
“Must pull myself out of the hole – with new incentive”
Felix Leitner ended the biathlon season early again this year - because, as in the previous World Cup year, he simply couldn't get up to speed. "There were many reasons." And so the man from Hochfilzen also made a far-reaching decision for the coming winter: Goodbye ÖSV, welcome back "old" coach!
Recently - including during a short trip to Manchester in England with his wife - he had to gather himself and shake off the "old terrible thoughts". "I needed that too after this more than messed-up season."
Above all, to find a new perspective for the future! Which Felix Leitner has now found: The former junior world champion will leave the ÖSV biathlon group led by head coach Vegard Bitnes, who despite his chronic lack of success has also been confirmed for the upcoming World Cup season after intensive analysis (rumor has it, as he still has a year left on his contract). And to team up again with his trusted coach Florian Steirer! "At the age of 27, probably in the second half of my career, I had to do something to pull myself out of the hole. I want to get back to where I was before!" At least to the top of the world. "I've known Flo since I was twelve, from my time in Stams, and I trust him 100 percent. He will take over all my training planning."
"I trust Flo 100 percent, I also believe that I can come back strong."

Incidentally, also that of Dominic Unterweger (25). "But I want to make it clear that the decision is not directed against Vegard - a lot has simply come together for me in the last two years," says Leitner, not wanting to cause any bad blood. Overtraining, equipment, medical problems and, subsequently, a mental block.
It remains to be seen how Lisa Hauser will proceed in the future. With Reini Gössweiner (instead of Markus Fischer), the Reither woman would also have an "old" sporting superior back . . .
