4:1 win in Salzburg
Wow! Furious KAC takes an early 2:0 lead in Salzburg
Win or fly! The Red Jackets traveled to Salzburg to bring the final series to Klagenfurt for a seventh duel. And they did it! Because they got off to a great start, were more ruthless - and were able to bag a 4:1 win in the end.
What a furious start the Red Jackets made to the sixth final in Salzburg! From the very first second, the attacks rolled towards the Bulls' goal - with success! After just 78 seconds, Postma converted a wonderful combination via Ganahl and Mursak to make it 1:0 in the far corner. And in the third minute, the Salzburg goal rang again: Hundertpfund served Fraser in front of the goal and he tucked the ball high into the net. The whole arena was in shock, you could only hear the Klagenfurt fans. Even though goalie Dahm had to pull off a dream save against Murphy in the fifth minute.
Paul Huber shot over
The visitors then had a bit of luck in their own powerplay: a mistake in the build-up, Schneider brought the disk in front of the KAC goal, but Paul Huber clearly missed the target. Shortly before the break, Salzburg's Schilling went for goal, but Dahm was able to defuse his backhand shot with his catching hand. And so Klagenfurt went into the dressing rooms with a 2:0 lead for the first time.
Swinging shot against the bar
Things got a little dicey at the start of the second period due to two KAC penalties, but KAC goalie Dahm was able to defuse a solo shot by Mario Huber. It was a close call in minute 30: Schwinger shot from the side but failed to hit the bar. Shortly afterwards, Kraus and Obersteiner were also unable to put the puck in the net. But then the home side got back into the game. Murphy slipped a concealed shot under Dahm. After a video review (challenge by the KAC due to an alleged obstruction of the goalie), the goal counted. The score remained 1:2 after 40 minutes.
KAC out of nowhere!
Salzburg started the final period with a fury of chances: Robertson, Murphy and Raffl scored. But Dahm was on hand - also for Raffl's shot from an acute angle in minute 46. Things got dicey when Dahm made a bad mistake with a pass, but then made a super save against Nissner from point-blank range (47'). Salzburg's Lewington had to go down shortly afterwards, getting a puck right in his face (48'). And then suddenly out of nowhere: After a super pass from Mursak, Petersen shoots the puck right over Tolvanen's pads on the counter-attack - for a much-acclaimed 3:1 lead. And the Bulls' arena is suddenly as quiet as a mouse. . (49.)
Haudum with a dream solo!
And when Haudum then skipped past three Salzburg players with a dream solo and netted to make the final score 4:1, the lid was on - despite the Mozartstädter having a clear advantage in chances (57'). The decisive match for the title will now take place in Klagenfurt on Friday!
