Fans in tears:
Sophie Kinsella suffers from most malignant brain tumor
British author Sophie Kinsella, who rose to fame with her humorous "Shopaholic - The Bargain Hunter" book series, is suffering from the most aggressive form of brain tumor. The 54-year-old shared her shocking diagnosis with her fans on Instagram on Wednesday.
"I've wanted to share something about my health for a long time and have been waiting for the strength to do so," Kinsella wrote on Instagram, before announcing the devastating diagnosis she has received. She is battling one of the most aggressive forms of cancer.
Diagnosed with glioblastoma
"At the end of 2022, I was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a form of aggressive brain cancer. I didn't tell them earlier because I wanted to make sure that my children could hear and process the news in peace and get used to our new normality."
Radiation and chemotherapy
She was cared for by an excellent team at University College Hospital in London, underwent successful surgery and then received radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which is still ongoing.
At the moment everything is stable and she is generally feeling very well, although she is very tired and her "memory is even worse than before!" she added with her famous humor.
She sends her love and best wishes to all those who have had cancer in any form, as well as those who support her. "It can feel very lonely and scary to receive a serious diagnosis, and the support and care of those around you means more than words can express."
Humorous novels
Sophie Kinsella is the pseudonym of British author Madeleine Wickham.
She was born on December 12, 1969 in London, England. She is best known for her witty novels in the genre of romantic comedy and women's fiction.
Her breakthrough came with her debut novel "The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic" (German title: "Die Schnäppchenjägerin"), which tells the story of a young woman named Rebecca Bloomwood who suffers from a shopping addiction. The book was made into a film starring Isla Fisher.
Kinsella has published numerous other novels, which are characterized by her charming writing style and her humorous, often slightly chaotic protagonists.
Some of her best-known works besides the "Shopaholic" series are "Can You Keep a Secret?" ("Don't tell anyone, darling"), "The Undomestic Goddess" ("Goddess in wellies") and "Remember Me?" ("Don't we know each other?").
