Two top contenders
The hot candidates for Silberberger’s job
Staying in the league is still THE big issue at WSG Tirol, but the number of contenders to succeed Thomas Silberberger has recently become noticeably smaller. The offers are on the table - but no decision has been made yet.
WSG Tirol is under discussion. But not so much because of their recent successes, which have (almost) secured their place in the league. It is the unresolved future that is keeping the discussions at the pub tables busy.
Who will succeed long-term coach Thomas Silberberger, who will leave Watten at the end of the current season after eleven (!) years on the WSG bench?
Everything is under consideration
No decision has been made yet. "And I haven't come any closer to it this week," admits WSG sporting director Stefan Köck. The first talks have taken place, the matter is on the table with the candidates. The reflection phase is underway.
Two candidates have been classified as "favorites". Two with whom Köck played together at FC Tirol. Which helps in terms of trust, but is not fundamentally important: "It doesn't have to be a friend of mine, but someone we are convinced of as a club!"
The task beckons
AKA manager Thomas Grumser is one of them. And Köck has already been able to sense interest and even hunger for the job during talks. Ex-Rapid coach Zoki Barisic is the other. He also spoke of a "good conversation between friends" - although he is still tied to Rapid.
What all candidates have to "swallow": Contrary to current practice, WSG are not bringing in a coaching team, Martin Svejnoha will remain co.
