First appearance
William smiled away worries at first appearance
Prince William made his first appearance on Thursday after Princess Kate made her cancer public. The 41-year-old appeared with a smile on his face during a visit to the Surplus to Supper charity in Surrey.
"I have cancer," Princess Kate announced in an emotional video message almost four weeks ago. Shortly afterwards, the 42-year-old and her family left for their Easter vacation. Now at least Prince William is back in the service of the crown.
William wields the wooden spoon
The 41-year-old made his first appearance after the break with a smile on his face on Thursday lunchtime at Surplus to Supper. There, William not only wielded the wooden spoon himself while preparing spaghetti Bolognese, but also spoke to volunteers and learned about how the charity distributes food from manufacturers and retailers to food banks, schools and other institutions that would otherwise be thrown away.
A particularly touching moment: Prince William is presented with get-well cards for Princess Kate and King Charles by a volunteer. "Oh, a few cards. That's very nice," the prince thanked her. According to reports in the Daily Mail, William also promised to "look after" Kate.
Around three tons of food are redistributed by Surplus to Supper every day, according to a press release from the palace earlier this week. This is an important contribution to environmental protection.
Afterwards, the elder son of King Charles III wanted to pay a visit to a youth center in west London that benefits from the food donations.
Time out with Prince George
William had already significantly reduced his appearances following his wife's hospitalization. Since Princess Catherine's cancer was announced, he had initially not appeared in public at all.
Most recently, Prince William and his eldest son Prince George attended an Aston Villa soccer match, the mini-royal's favorite club. Photos and videos showed dad and son cheering and cheering - a welcome distraction from the worries of recent weeks.
Because the worry about Princess Kate is certainly enormous. The 42-year-old explained in her video that she is undergoing preventative chemotherapy and currently wants to focus on her recovery and her family. It is not yet known when the Princess of Wales will resume her royal duties.
