Rapid negotiations
Auinger’s government keeps up the pace
When politicians attest to a constructive climate of discussion, this should actually be part of normal manners and therefore not worth mentioning. However, praise for the future Salzburg city government comes from someone who should know. Magistrate Max Tischler has been present at all party talks since 1992 and he says: "What makes these negotiations stand out is the good atmosphere, also with the other parliamentary groups and the administration."
In this benevolent atmosphere, the parties have already worked through numerous points. However, the big issues of transport, housing and urban planning are still on the agenda for the next two weeks. However, the new city leaders have already hammered in the first stakes.
Ten million euros per year are to be made available for the purchase of land for new apartments. That is 2.5 million more than previously estimated. The city's financial restraint should be over. According to the future mayor Bernhard Auinger (SPÖ), the departments have registered projects worth 580 million euros for the next five years. "That doesn't include the S-Link yet," says Auinger.
New care staff should be able to work more easily
In Auinger's department itself, around 400 additional childcare places are to be created for children under the age of three. The outdoor ice rink at the ice arena is to be converted into a training hall, and the indoor swimming pool at Lepi is to be built.
In the care sector, SPÖ city councillor Andrea Brandner is focusing primarily on the shortage of skilled workers. "In 2040, we will have twice as many over 80-year-olds as we do now," Brandner announces. The aim is to find new skilled workers by reducing bureaucratic hurdles, providing good working conditions and teaching care in municipal retirement homes.
Florian Kreibich's (ÖVP) district administration and municipal companies have also already been negotiated. He wants to revitalize the city's markets, for example. "The green market in particular is not ideal as it currently stands," says Kreibich. At Südtiroler Platz in front of the train station, the city ÖVP leader will be working with the public order office. Several measures are to be implemented here, and a redesign is also being considered.
