Duo in custody
Cab burglary series is over: the fear remains
Hundreds of cabs destroyed in Salzburg! One duo is in custody and remains silent on all charges. There have been no more incidents since then. But the drivers still fear further cab break-ins ...
Why did an Iraqi (28) and his 18-year-old accomplice from Upper Austria destroy so many cabs? Are there other perpetrators? And even more victims? Investigators still have no answers to any of these questions. Although two suspects are being held in Puch-Urstein prison, neither of them is commenting on any of the serious allegations.
The fact is: In recent weeks, there have been countless break-ins in parked cabs in the Salzburg city area. The criminals were not squeamish: They smashed the windows of the vehicles. The loot was always small, but the material damage was all the higher. "There is hardly a colleague who was spared," groans taxi driver Franz Manussiger(name changed by the editor). Together with almost 80 colleagues, he went on the hunt for criminals on Monday night, as reported by the "Krone" newspaper. The Iraqi and his accomplice were caught in the act and the police finally arrested the duo.
Taxi drivers expect more break-ins
Since then, there have been no more break-ins in cabs. A deceptive calm? Manussiger: "There is certainly a gang at work. There are still several perpetrators." The police can neither rule this out nor confirm it at the moment. "The investigation is ongoing, there are currently no new findings," says the police.
