‘Breaking Bad’ star planned his own murder
"Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito was on the verge of ordering his own murder. Financial problems had led him to do so, the actor now explained. He wanted to save his family by killing himself.
It's not all good times for Giancarlo Esposito. The star, who is known for his roles in "Breaking Bad" and "Better Call Saul" as well as the Netflix series "Kaleidoscope", now spoke on the SiriusXM show "Jim and Sam" about financial problems that had plagued him in the past.
Considered commissioning his own murder
At the time, he even considered commissioning his own murder in order to get his life insurance paid out for the family, the 65-year-old explained.
"If I got someone to kill me, death by misadventure, they would get the insurance," Esposito explained about the gruesome thoughts he had to make before his role in "Breaking Bad".
Thought of family saved Esposito
He continued: "I have four children. I wanted them to have a life. It was a tough moment back then. I literally thought about self-destruction so they could survive. That's how low I had sunk."
At the same time, the thought of his family ultimately saved him. "I started to think that it couldn't be done because the pain I would cause them would be lifelong."
Success with "Breaking Bad"
The "light at the end of the tunnel" was finally the role in "Breaking Bad". In the hit series, Esposito was seen as criminal businessman and drug boss Gustavo "Gus" Fring. He also starred in the spin-off series "Better Call Saul".
