The outdoor pool season in Salzburg is open

The weather leaves real water rats cold! With rain and temperatures of around 7 degrees, the 2024 outdoor pool season kicked off in the city of Salzburg on Friday... 

The light drizzle couldn't deter him any more than the 7 degrees Celsius outside temperature. "It's much warmer in the water anyway," laughed Franz Heiling. He was one of the determined people who didn't want to miss out on the start of the season at Salzburg's AYA outdoor pool on Friday. "They could have opened even earlier because of me," he said. Elisabeth Otte took a similar view: "I'm going to swim my lengths for an hour now. But then it's time to get out of the water."

The outdoor pool in Alpenstraße opened its doors at 7 a.m. sharp. "The first people were already waiting," said operations manager Michael Hofer. For him, jumping into the cool water was still far too fresh. But: "We actually always had a few people in the pool throughout the day. People were clearly having fun."

The water in the sports pool was already 20 degrees Celsius at the start of the season. The much shallower second pool remains closed for the time being. Hofer: "This is mainly for children and teenagers. But they don't come to us in this weather anyway."

The two other outdoor pools in the city of Salzburg - the "Volksi" and the "Lepi" - are currently scheduled to open for the first time on May 9. The other pools in the province are aiming for a season start around May 1st.
