A Salzburg handball veteran says goodbye
Stefan Pac (52), legend of handball club UHC Salzburg, will play his farewell game for the first team on Saturday. The winger found his way to the club close to his heart in the 1980s and will remain loyal to it. But Pac is not the only player to step down.
It was a long time ago: in 1982, Stefan Pac found his way to UHC through his teacher at the time. It was love at first sight. He has been deeply connected to the handball club ever since. With a few exceptions, he has always remained loyal to his favorite club. Once he moved to Bad Reichenhall for a short time. "I wanted to tell my grandchildren one day that I played abroad," laughs the Salzburg native. "But does that really count?"
On Saturday (18, Sportzentrum Nord), Pac will play his farewell game from the first team in the season opener against Wels. In which his colleagues are now always younger than the winger. "When I started, there wasn't even a cell phone. So much has changed over the years. But it keeps you up to date."
"It's just about time"
The veteran, who also played in the old Riedenburghalle with coach Wagner and chairman Manhart for a long time, usually won the competition. Duels against the "first team" will now only take place during training. This is because Pac is moving to the second team, but still doesn't want to miss out on the intensive sessions. "You immerse yourself in a whole new world," says the 52-year-old, who also feels a little melancholy. "When you've been doing something for so long, you naturally miss it. But it's just time."
In addition to Pac, backcourt player Hesse is also moving to the "second team", while goalie Seybold and top scorer Fuchs - who is accompanying his partner, who works as a coach, to the Netherlands - are leaving the club.
