An 83-year-old man slipped on wet ground while walking his dog in Liezen on Saturday morning and fell around 50 meters. A pedestrian following behind noticed the accident and set the rescue chain in motion. The 83-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

At around 5.45 a.m., the 83-year-old set off on a walk with his son's dog in the direction of Marienwaldweg. After walking for around 30 minutes, the man slipped on the wet and leaf-covered ground. He fell about 50 meters over steep and rough terrain downhill and came to rest in a stream. The 83-year-old tried to get back on the path under his own steam. Due to his injuries and the heavy soaking, he was unable to continue and held on to a branch. He tried to draw attention to himself by shouting for help.

Serious injuries
A pedestrian following behind became aware of the accident victim and called the emergency services. The arriving police officers descended to the 83-year-old and administered first aid. The accident victim was rescued by the Liezen mountain rescue team. The 83-year-old was taken to Rottenmann Regional Hospital with serious injuries by the ÖRK. The dog ran back to the victim's home on its own.

Eight members of the Liezen Mountain Rescue Service and a mountain rescue doctor, two paramedics from the ÖRK and two officers from the Liezen police station were deployed to the scene of the accident.
