Speeding on the slow lane
The battle for safety on the way to school never ends
Concerned parents rate a Carinthian school route as dangerous, but the authorities do not.
For years, residents in the Klagenfurt district of Lendorf have been trying to improve road safety for their children. As previously reported, the boys and girls have to cross Feldkirchner Straße on their way to school. According to concerned parents, this is very dangerous because the road is very busy, especially in the morning hours. "Many drivers use this route as a shortcut to or from Feldkirchen and usually drive too fast," writes a local resident to the "Krone" newspaper.
"Not a sympathetic ear"
"Unfortunately, the city has not listened to our concerns for years. We are repeatedly turned away," complain some parents, who, however, do not want to give up their fight for safety. "We absolutely need a protective facility here. Because this is a new housing estate. There will certainly be more young children living here in the next few years."

However, the city council sees no need to take action. "We have checked the speed at this location several times and observed the volume of traffic. There were hardly any violations," explains city councillor Sandra Wassermann.
According to experts, a protective path would be too dangerous: "It would require structural measures. What's more, one side is a private road. Residents would have to remove their fences and plants to ensure visibility," says Wassermann. However, she wants to continue to "keep an eye on the traffic trap."
