Moscow safe:
New US aid will not prevent defeat
Following the approval of new US aid for his attacked country, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi sees "a chance of victory" against Russia. Moscow does not see it that way at all. According to a Russian representative at the United Nations, even the 57 billion euros approved by the US House of Representatives on Saturday will not be able to prevent the Ukrainian defeat.
"There is nothing to celebrate," said Russia's deputy ambassador to the United Nations in New York, Dmitry Polyansky. The war will continue like this, "thousands of Ukrainians will go to the meat grinder", wrote Polyansky on Sunday in the social network X. "But the inglorious end of the Kiev regime is inevitable regardless of this new package and all the useless efforts of US and NATO supporters to keep it alive", the diplomat commented.
Kremlin spokesman: "USA is enriching itself in the Ukraine war"
Immediately after the decision, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov accused the USA of continuing to enrich itself in the war by supplying weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly criticized Western military aid as a means of prolonging the war. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi, on the other hand, thanked the USA for its support in the fight against the Russian war of aggression. Kiev had repeatedly emphasized that Western military aid was vital for the survival of the country, which was fighting for its independence.
What happens with the US billions
Ukraine now expects its fight against the Russian war of aggression to be strengthened. Head of government Denys Shmyhal announced on Facebook that around 50 billion US dollars (around 47 billion euros) of the package would be spent on Ukraine's defense. This means more weapons for Ukraine, including more air defense and longer-range projectiles.
7.8 billion US dollars are earmarked to support Ukraine's state budget. In turn, 1.57 billion US dollars are planned as economic aid and 400 million US dollars for border protection and demining. The money will also be used to finance the restoration of important infrastructure.
