Many accidents
Summer bikes, April weather – a fatal combination
Four people injured! Several accidents happened at the weekend in wintry conditions - all of the cars were on summer tires. Traffic experts therefore appeal: "Keep using winter wheels!"
Deceptive April weather, deceptive conditions on Salzburg's roads: Short-term snow showers are currently repeatedly leading to precarious situations - because many drivers have already fitted summer tires on their cars. This proved fatal for a 26-year-old woman at the weekend.
Due to sleet showers
The German woman was driving her Audi on the Russenstraße between Thalgau and Hof late on Saturday afternoon. The road was very slippery due to sleet showers. During an evasive maneuver, her car collided with an oncoming VW van. The Audi was thrown into an adjacent field. The 26-year-old woman, her passenger and her two-year-old child were injured. The Red Cross had to take them to the regional hospital. The 42-year-old driver of the van also suffered injuries.
There were also two accidents on the Bavarian A8 highway not far from the Salzburg border on Saturday. In wintry conditions - including snowfall - a Porsche driver left the road and her powerful car only came to a halt 60 meters later in a meadow. The Porsche had summer tires. Shortly afterwards, a 47-year-old man also lost control of his car without winter tires.
Weather remains frosty, winter tires recommended
Traffic experts therefore appeal: "The end of the winter tire obligation does not mean that winter tires may no longer be used under any circumstances. In winter road conditions, the use of winter tires is still recommended," says Johann Kopinits from ARBÖ. And: "Although the use of summer tires is not punishable by law, it can lead to problems with the insurance company in the event of damage."
Caution! The weather will remain extremely wintry throughout Salzburg in the coming days. . .
