Our planet is more vulnerable than ever! Greenpeace wants to draw special attention to this on Mother Earth's fateful day today. But there are eco-pioneers who offer hope.

The flood of plastic in particular throws a glaring spotlight on the triple crisis facing our planet - global warming, species extinction and the serious pollution of so many sensitive habitats," says Greenpeace activist Lisa Tamina Panhuber, once again sounding the alarm. Her fiery appeal to protect the earth today and thus the survival of mankind is more than urgent: without a healthy environment, there is no valuable food!

This year's focus of Earth Day, proclaimed by the UN, is to stop the global contamination of our last natural paradises with dangerous civilization waste. A frightening fact: millions and millions of tons of plastic waste have already sunk to the bottom of our oceans. Panhuber knows: "The global community has been negotiating unsuccessfully for a small eternity on earth about an agreement to finally curb this catastrophe, which is turning into a tsunami with every ocean wave."

Thousands of creation keepers in Austria
Organic farmer Alfred Grand from Absdorf in the heart of the Tullnerfeld (Lower Austria) is a representative of the thousands of custodians of creation who are quietly but persistently doing ecological good in Austria. With unimaginable idealism, he tends his "Grand Farm", a small universe unto itself. The heart of the vegetable production, where every single plant is grown by hand - without any tractors (!): harmonious composting and soil refinement with secret allies in the depths of the earth, namely industrious earthworms! Organic market gardening included!

Grand's vision goes far beyond his unique Austrian model farm, which also serves as a research facility: "Every village should have a purely organic market garden like mine! We can promote regional, climate-friendly supply."

The young Carinthian Felix Krainer (see video below), who once set out to preserve creation, is also intensively involved in saving our planet. A small straw of hope grew into a mighty trunk - and a gentle wave turned into a flood of positive eco-acts. For two years now, the "Planet Matters" initiative has been pursuing a goal that is as simple as it is efficient, namely to free the earth from the clutches of the waste plague with the help of hundreds of thousands of volunteers.

And they are doing so with the kind of active idealism and action that one would only wish for from destructive climate campaigners and protesters. "We don't point the finger at others, we take action ourselves," says Krainer, explaining the environmental credo of his TikTok movement, which has now become a global force.

Clean-up campaign by Viennese HAK students
A current shining example and at the same time a prelude to the exemplary clean-up campaign: Year 4 pupils from the Federal Commercial Academy in Vienna-Hietzing set off through fields and meadows with the logistical support of waste disposal legend and Saubermacher founder Hans Roth. He had provided grabbing tongs, bin bags and more. Inspiring motivation, as Roth recommends to all Krone readers: Each and every one of us can do something in the spirit of our eco-pioneer Felix! Especially today on World Earth Day, but also far beyond.
