Because of Hamas attack
Israel’s military intelligence chief resigns
Due to the attack by the terrorist group Hamas on October 7, the head of the intelligence service has now resigned. This was announced by the Israeli military on Monday.
Aharon Haliwa, the head of Israeli military intelligence, is the first high-ranking Israeli politician to resign following the failures surrounding the Hamas attack. Haliwa had already announced to the public in October that he felt guilty about the Hamas attack. As he explained, he should have prevented the massacre. "Even that morning I understood that it was over. When the war is over, I have to go," the intelligence chief is said to have admitted shortly after October 7, according to "i24news". Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant agreed to the request for his resignation. D
The resignation comes shortly before the ground operation in Rafah, which is considered highly risky. Israel assumes that this is the last Hamas stronghold in the Gaza Strip. Nor should we forget the tensions between Israel and Iran, which have been plagued by reciprocal retaliatory attacks.
General Haliwa was part of the IDF for 38 years. He is thanked for his contribution "as a soldier and commander to the security of the country".
Background
Terrorists from the Palestinian extremist organization Hamas and other groups murdered more than 1,200 people and kidnapped around 250 hostages in the Gaza Strip during their massacre on 7 October last year. Haliwa said shortly afterwards that he bore responsibility for the mistakes that led to the terrorist attack. In order to clear up these mistakes, he also called for the establishment of a state committee of inquiry.
Israel responded to the massacre with massive air strikes and a ground offensive in the Gaza Strip. In view of the high number of civilian casualties and the catastrophic situation in the Gaza Strip, Israel is coming under increasing international criticism.
