SPÖ slider flip-flops on coalition plan

Who with whom after the National Council elections in the fall? Recently, there have been a number of interesting coalition announcements from important politicians. Andreas Schieder, the SPÖ's lead candidate for the upcoming EU elections on June 9, made an explosive statement in this context at the provincial party conference of his Viennese comrades on Saturday (see video above), which now has the FPÖ in particular up in arms ...

"We must also send a clear signal in this EU election that we want a government, namely from Schw..." Just a slip of the tongue, or did Schieder already reveal the Social Democrats' coalition plan?

In Schieder's defense, he did not quite pronounce the word "black" and immediately corrected the sentence with: "... whichever party makes a fair European policy again ..."

FPÖ rages: "Everything unpacked"
The FPÖ is already raging and sees Schieder's words as a firm commitment to a comeback of the grand coalition between the SPÖ and ÖVP. "When Mr. Schieder blabs. Everything unpacked in the unity party. If you vote SPÖ, you vote ÖVP and vice versa," the Freedom Party speculates on its X channel.

Schieder rails against the Freedom Party
In his speech on Saturday, Schieder underlined that he is no great friend of the Freedom Party. The FPÖ would flirt with leaving the EU, according to Schieder, for whom this would be an "absolute disaster". He accused the Freedom Party, which he therefore described as an "anti-homeland party", of "smashing the state security establishment" and that Russian spies were "sitting in our institutions via the FPÖ".

Kaiser, Ludwig, Dornauer for red-black
From Carinthian Governor Peter Kaiser to Vienna Mayor Michael Ludwig and Tyrolean SPÖ leader and Deputy Governor Georg Dornauer, a number of SPÖ leaders have spoken out in favor of an SPÖ-ÖVP coalition after the upcoming national elections in recent weeks. And within the People's Party, too, voices have recently been raised in favor of a black-red (or red-black) coalition. Styrian Governor Christopher Drexler, for example, believes in their "creative power".

Survey: ÖVP and SPÖ currently without a majority
However, all red and black politicians should be reminded of the following saying: "You shouldn't distribute the bear's fur before it has been killed." Because: polls currently see the FPÖ in first place with a clear lead over the SPÖ and ÖVP. Red-Black (or Black-Red) would not have a majority with two parties and would (as things stand) be dependent on at least one other partner.

Some pollsters put the FPÖ at between 30 and 32 percent. The ÖVP and SPÖ are at 21-23 percent. In this respect, SPÖ party leader Philip Kucher is right when he recently told various red state leaders: "We have to win votes first before we make plans for the day after the election."
