Number 17 banned
Salzburg fans launch petition for legend Ulmer
Andreas Ulmer enjoys legendary status among the fans of FC Red Bull Salzburg. However, the 38-year-old will leave the club at the end of the season. Ulmer's shirt number 17 is now to be blocked in his honor. A petition has even been started in his honor.
"Block the number 17!" demanded Salzburg's hard core of fans on a banner at the champions' Bundesliga home game against Austria Klagenfurt (4:2).
The veteran, who moved to the Salzach in January 2009, is the biggest club icon for many supporters of the serial champions. With 14 league titles, 13 of them in the service of the Bulls, the 32-time ÖFB international can also call himself the most successful Bundesliga footballer of all time.
However, the "Ulmer era" at the Salzach comes to an end in the summer. While the player wants to continue his career and has already held talks with several clubs (the "Krone" reported), the supporters want to give him a great send-off.
Ulmer: "A very nice feeling"
"I have seen it. It was a very nice feeling," explained Ulmer after the game against Klagenfurt, when asked about the banner. Would the suspension of his number mean anything to him? "Yes, it does."
Currently, only the number 26, Jonatan Soriano's number, is not assigned. It is quite possible that the Bulls will soon block a second one.
In order to emphasize their wish, the Salzburg fans, specifically the fan club "Raging Bulls", have even started a petition addressed to Bulls managing director Stephan Reiter. The collection target is 1000 votes, and as of April 22, 2024, 7:45 pm, almost 60 percent have already been reached.
