“Despite our successes, we remain humble”

FC Egg's 1-1 draw at FC Rotenberg could not prevent the hosts from becoming the new leaders in the Elite League. Nevertheless, the point gained by Cetin Batir's team in the Fan.at match of the round is a clear sign of FC Egg's renewed strength.

"Two wins and two draws, almost exclusively against the league's top clubs, are impressive," says Batir, who moved from Bezau to Egg in the winter to take over from long-term coach Murad Gerdi. What particularly appeals to the coach is Egg's philosophy: "Against Rotenberg, we only played with three players who are not from Egg. We also had three U18 players on the substitutes' bench due to a number of absentees."

Successful work with young talent
The fact that it was still enough for this draw was testament to the quality of the youth work in Egg. Which has been impressive for many years. Time and time again, many players from the junior squad make the leap into the competitive team. This is not a matter of course in the elite league. "Despite our successes, we have remained humble, otherwise things would quickly go in the other direction," says Batir.

Ex-Altach keeper prevents Egg victory
A win against Rotenberg would even have been possible, but keeper Martin Kobras prevented further Egg goals with some brilliant saves. "For me, Martin is the best keeper in the league, there's no doubt about that," said former regional league keeper Cetin Batir, praising the former Bundesliga professional.
