In the current "TV duel" between Andreas Mölzer and Eva Glawischnig on krone.tv, one of the topics was the re-election of Michael Ludwig as regional party chairman of the Vienna SPÖ. Eva Glawischnig sums up: "The whole party conference was a sign of strength."

"Over 900 delegates were there, more than a thousand people. The unity they demonstrated, Babler and Ludwig. Everyone who is anyone was there: Vranitzky, Häupl, really everything. Babler gave a very emotional speech, but the content was very, very election campaigning. Demanding everything without saying how it would pay off. Everything was promised that would be nice and desirable in the future. The state is responsible everywhere. Because that is our right and entitlement. I was very curious to see how this would be done, but Babler's speaking time was already over," says Glawischnig.

Ludwig strong man of the Social Democrats
Andreas Mölzer adds: "It was a demonstration of Red Vienna, which still exists. Even if it was only in remnants. But it was also a demonstration of the new strong man in Austrian social democracy. This is the mayor of Vienna, no question about it. He also has stature, it has to be said. If you go through the ranks of party leaders from Kreisky upwards, Ludwig is already a personality. Babler is, of course, struggling, as he has yet to prove himself in the National Council elections. But the Vienna SPÖ is still the determining factor for social democracy in Austria."

Two-party coalition is no longeran option
In general, however, the current polls show that the Vienna SPÖ is no longer what it used to be. Glawischnig: "A two-party coalition will no longer work with the current poll figures. They are a long way from forty percent. Even if they wanted to continue the coalition with the NEOS, they would need a third party." However, both Andreas Mölzer and Eva Glawischnig have ruled out a coalition with the FPÖ, which would be enough to get enough seats with two parties.
