From electricity to worktops: kitchens are becoming ever greener

Sustainability is the hot topic - and it is also becoming increasingly important in the kitchen industry. With an additional photovoltaic system that has been put into operation next to the production facility, Breitschopf is now filling up with even more solar power. Customers of the Dietach-based company can also reduce their own CO2 emissions.

Offcuts are shredded and end up in the wood chip heating system, and in addition to the photovoltaic system on the roof of the kitchen center, Breitschopf now also fills up with solar energy on its own property next to the production facility - "our kitchens are now produced 100 per cent with green electricity," says Martin Breitschopf, who runs the company in Dietach with his father Johann and brother Johannes, which has specialized in fitted kitchens since 1961.

63 years later, the family business is all about "giving something back to the environment", as Martin Breitschopf emphasizes. Customers can consciously opt for models with a particularly low carbon footprint - for example by choosing solid wood fronts or worktops made from recycled materials.

"The options here have increased significantly in recent years," says the Breitschopf trio. Direct sales also save a lot of packaging on the way to assembly.
