On the border with Bavaria
The Minister of the Interior at the narcotics control
High-ranking politicians visit the city of Mozart. But not for the sake of art: Rather, the Minister of the Interior and the head of the state promised new police officers and then watched closely during traffic controls.
Once again, the venerable halls of the Festspielhaus served as the setting for the future law enforcement officers: For 54 young people it was the start of their training, for 27 young people the start of their everyday police work. In the Karl Böhm Hall, the head of the Salzburg police force, Bernhard Rausch, spoke of the "highest number of new police trainees in history".
He also announced a "cybercrime training center" for Salzburg. Governor Wilfried Haslauer and Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (both VP) also spoke to the neo-officers and their families: while the head of the province mused about the festival halls and called the "police uniform a symbol of democracy and the rule of law", the minister spoke of a "necessary" increase in police inspections and of changes in crime: "Bank robberies have died out. Another type of robbery is still taking place, on the Internet." He also announced 200 new police officers for Salzburg next year - 2500 throughout Austria.
The next appearance followed hours later: on the Munich highway near the Bavarian border. The minister, state governor and police director watched traffic police officers carry out drug and alcohol checks - a clear sign of the legalization of cannabis in Germany.
Speaking of which: according to the police, there are "no anomalies" and even a decrease in drug charges.
