One of the city's most important sights
The Moulin Rouge cabaret with its characteristic red windmill wings is located in the north of Paris and is one of the city's most visited sights. It is considered the birthplace of the modern dance form of can-can. The only serious accident to date at the landmark was a fire that broke out in 1915 during construction work and forced the venue to close for nine years.
The current accident occurred just a few months before the Olympic Games, which will be held in the French capital in July and August. With this incident, there is growing concern in Paris, already one of the most visited cities in the world, about the rush of tourists in the summer.
