'Friends' star Courteney Cox, 59, has revealed that Snow Patrol rocker Johnny McDaid, 47, left her after one minute of their first therapy session, which was aimed at improving their relationship. In hindsight, however, the actress is grateful for the break-up.

US actress Courteney Cox has been in a relationship with musician Johnny McDaid for a number of years. Cox has now revealed a special episode in the love affair between the two stars in the "Minnie Questions" podcast.

According to the podcast, her boyfriend McDaid broke up with her during a couples therapy session. However, the couple subsequently got back together and today Cox is "grateful for the break-up".

Painful break-up during couples therapy
"Johnny and I broke up five years ago," said the actress. "I didn't know it was coming. Whether I should have or not, it was just like we went to this therapist to talk about our boundaries - what we could and couldn't accept from each other," Cot revealed in the podcast. Her then fiancé and current partner had simply broken up with her "within the first minute".

"Shocking and painful" for Cox
Cox was then "so shocked" and felt "so much pain". The 59-year-old also explained that she didn't like surprises. And yet her partner, who is twelve years younger than her, did not act this way on purpose or in a planned way, the actress adds. "He had so much pain in the relationship. There was so much to deal with that he had to protect his heart."

The sudden break-up was very painful for Courteney Cox.

Instead of being angry at McDaid for his actions, Courtney Cox said she worked on herself as a result - with the same therapist on whose couch her fiancé had previously broken up with her. It was "brutal to go to his office for a while afterward," the "Friends" star said.

"I'm so grateful for that separation"
However, Cox ultimately learned to find her "voice and my boundaries again and figure out what my motives were in life - what my role was in this." Today, she says, she is "so grateful for that breakup" because when they got back together, it was a very different relationship.

The actress and the musician have been a couple on and off since 2013. They were introduced to each other by none other than Ed Sheeran (33). He is a mutual friend of the two. Cox was previously married to "Scream" star David Arquette (52) from 1999 to 2013. They have a daughter together, who was born in 2004.
