NEOS in the EU election campaign
2nd wave of posters with Meinl-Reisinger, Brandstätter
The NEOS presented their second wave of posters for the EU elections on June 9 in Vienna on Thursday. The posters show top candidate Helmut Brandstätter and list runner-up Anna Stürgkh as well as their (non-candidate) party leader Beate Meinl-Reisinger against the backdrop of the European flag.
In the first wave, on the other hand, posters featured the likenesses of the "threats" Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin and FPÖ top candidate Harald Vilimsky.
Second wave of posters in response to the first
The focus is now on Europe - either one "that is respected", "that makes us strong" or "that protects us". The "United States of Europe" can also be found right next to the NEOS logo. The second wave is practically the answer to the first, said Secretary General Douglas Hoyos at a press conference on Thursday. Back then, the question was "What protects against Trump?" or "Who prevents an Öxit?".
NEOS miss a clear line with the competition
The NEOS see themselves as the "only pro-European alternative on the ballot paper". "We see the others tossing and turning," said Hoyos, missing a clear pro-European line from the competition. "There is no one who is as clear on these issues as Helmut Brandstätter."
Brandstätter warns of "oppressive dangers"
He spoke of "oppressive dangers" for Europe. Russian President Vladimir Putin is not only attacking Ukraine. "He is waging a hybrid war against the whole of Europe and liberal democracy." At the same time, China is a systemic competitor. There is also the threat from within: There are forces in Austria, Germany, Hungary and Slovakia that want to "sell out" Europe.
The NEOS oppose this by strengthening the EU Parliament, more majority decisions, a defense and energy union and a stronger focus on education. Brandstätter also called once again for a Commissioner for Defense for the EU.
