Herzog on Rangnick: “He has achieved his goal”

Is Ralf Rangnick leaving Austria's national team for FC Bayern? Andi Herzog believes that the German has already "achieved his goal". A departure would be "a big loss" for the ÖFB, says the Sky expert.

Rangnick is "a proven expert", Herzog told the news portal "t-online". He had sparked euphoria in Austria as team manager. "His big goal was always to be at the European Championships in Germany as a German with Austria. He achieved this goal. I could imagine that he would be interested if Bayern came calling."

Herzog "couldn't have imagined Rangnick joining Bayern ten years ago." Herzog now believes the 65-year-old is capable of the job, but also sees difficulties ahead: "If a huge club has sporting problems and says: 'Ralf, rebuild the club', then he is one hundred percent the right man. But Bayern is of course one of the three biggest clubs in Europe in the last 40 or 50 years."

Offer on the table - Schöttel confident of staying
And Rangnick is currently considering a "concrete offer" from Bayern, which according to ÖFB sports director Peter Schöttel is on the table. "He feels very, very comfortable at the ÖFB and appreciates the job. The goals achieved in the last two years are a great thing for everyone involved. But when a club like Bayern Munich comes knocking, it's understandable that you think about their interest," explained Schöttel on Wednesday: "I'm hopeful that Ralf will not only choose us, but will also remain Austrian team manager for years to come."
