New documentary by Lil Zoo
Local breaker provides personal insights
B-Boy Lil Zoo aka Fouad Ambelj is Austria's most successful breaker and is one of Austria's greatest hopes of dancing for precious metal at the Olympic premiere of Breaking in Paris 2024. This Friday, the professional athlete, who lives in Innsbruck, will present his documentary "Breaking Chose Me" in Vienna. The "Krone" has the first details in advance.
The eyes of the global breaking scene are set on Paris, where the Olympic Games will take place from July 26, 2024. It is the premiere for a discipline that has its roots in the streets of New York. Breaking is a lifestyle that the B-girls and B-boys embody in their battles. The moves that B-Girls and B-Boys show in their battles are statements and their way of communicating.
"I have a large repertoire of moves and styles"
One person who combines lifestyle and sport like no other is Fouad Ambelj, aka B-Boy Lil Zoo. The 30-year-old has been dancing for more than 15 years and moved to Innsbruck in 2016: since then, he has been an integral part of the local street dance scene and has become Austria's most successful breaker. In the coming weeks, he has the chance to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris and dance for precious metal for Austria.
"I have a large repertoire of moves and styles. I always try to find the right answer to my opponent in the battles," says the 30-year-old, adding: "I just want to enjoy the moment and make the most of it, inspire the crowd and convey the right vibe. And carry my energy through from the first battle to the last."
"I believe I can win a medal"
How does the breaker rate his chances at the Olympics? "I think I have a chance of winning a medal at the Olympics. I've already fought every competitor. It will be very tough, but it's not impossible. If I show what I can do and the draw is right, a lot is possible."
Journey from the streets of Casablanca to the big stage
Before the qualifiers, B-Boy Lil Zoo will be presenting his breaking documentary "Breaking Chose Me" this Friday at Artis International in Vienna, which shows his journey from the streets of Casablanca to the big Red Bull BC One World Final stage and gives an insight into his preparations for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Excitingly, this documentary will also be available on Red Bull TV this evening - from 8pm.
I have a large repertoire of moves and styles. I always try to find the right answer to my opponent in the battles.
Breaker Lil Zoo
Various workshops and mentoring tasks
Lil Zoo also wants to use this big stage to draw even more attention to his great passion of breaking. Because Fouad Ambelj also wants to give something back to breaking in Austria. He gives workshops and passes on his know-how to the new generation of breakers. He is also already a mentor to the up-and-coming B-Boy Hynamite from Vienna, who won the Red Bull BC One Cypher Austria last year and represented Austria at the world finals. For B-Boy Lil Zoo, it's not just sporting success that counts, but also passing on his experience. He experienced for himself in his youth in Morocco how important it is for experienced dancers to support young talent. For him, this is the lifestyle that defines Breaking - and for which he lives.
And even a jury member
That's why B-Boy Lil Zoo will also be part of the jury at the Red Bull BC One Cypher Austria 2024 on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in the Ballonhalle (start at 7 pm), when Austria's best breakers compete against each other and dance for their ticket to the Red Bull BC One World Final in Rio de Janeiro in December 2024. About Breaker Lil Zoo
B-Boy Lil Zoo's real name is Fouad Ambelj and he was born on September 29, 1993 in Casablanca (Morocco). He started breaking in the streets of Casablanca as a teenager and quickly realized that he had a special talent for this street dance style. Lil Zoo has been living and dancing in Innsbruck since 2016 and has become Austria's most successful breaker. Lil Zoo has also been an Austrian citizen for three years and is therefore one of Austria's greatest hopes for the premiere of breaking at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. In May 2024, further qualification battles will decide who qualifies for the Olympics - and Lil Zoo is one of the most promising candidates in Europe to dance for the first Olympic medal in Breaking history in a few months' time.
