According to information from US government circles, Washington wants to buy further weapons and defense systems worth six billion US dollars (around 5.6 billion euros) for Ukraine. According to an insider, this will include an artillery defense radar, tactical vehicles, Patriot air defense missile systems, drones, artillery, precision ammunition and drone defense systems. The "Politico" portal also reported on the new aid on Thursday (local time). According to the report, the plans could become public as early as this Friday at a virtual meeting of the US-led contact group to support Ukraine.

"According to Politico, however, this is not about immediate aid. Rather, it is about contracts with US defense companies. However, this would mean that the ordered goods will probably not arrive in Ukraine for several years. The Pentagon did not confirm the report when asked by the portal.

Long delay due to Republican blockade
The USA is considered Ukraine's most important supporter. Since the beginning of US President Biden's term in office in January 2021, his administration has provided military aid worth around 45 billion US dollars to Kiev. There are also billions more in non-military financial aid. After months of domestic political deadlock, the US Congress approved new aid of around 61 billion US dollars for Kiev late on Tuesday evening with the approval of the Senate - thus paving the way for new arms deliveries.
