Heraf needs a miracle
WSG Tirol against Austria Lustenau – LIVE from 5pm
WSG Tirol needed a 0-0 draw against Austria Lustenau on matchday 29 of the Bundesliga to secure relegation. However, Andreas Heraf's Vorarlberg side will now need a miracle to avoid relegation.
Three rounds before the end of the season, Austria Lustenau still have a mini-chance of avoiding relegation from the Bundesliga. The team from Vorarlberg drew goalless at WSG Tirol on Saturday and are therefore still eight points behind penultimate-placed Altach after the seventh round of the qualifying group, who will also move up the table if they are tied on points. A Vorarlberg derby is still on the agenda in the final round.
The next few weeks will show whether this will have any significance. Lustenau host Vienna Austria on Friday, while Altach take on WAC on Saturday. On May 11, Lustenau will play a home game against BW Linz and Altach an away game at WSG. Any points gained by SCRA would mean relegation for their Vorarlberg rivals. Like Blau-Weiß Linz, the Tyroleans have been rescued, meaning WSG coach Thomas Silberberger can end his tenure successfully this summer.
The Tyroleans were intent on safety right from the start, as one point was enough to secure their place in the league. The Vorarlberg side had more possession and created significantly more chances in the first half, but the home side still had the most dangerous move. Nik Prelec got on the end of Diarra's cross from the penalty spot, but missed (29'). At the other end, Paterson Chato knocked out Tyrol's Valentino Müller, which was also an important block for the home side (38').
After the restart, Lustenau were forced to go on the attack even more, but Ben Bobzien (48), Pius Grabher (51) and Kennedy Boateng (58) lacked the necessary efficiency in finishing. They were also unable to capitalize on a blunder by WSG goalkeeper Adam Stejskal (52'). As before the break, the Tyroleans only had one top chance, when Domenik Schierl made a brilliant save from a Diarra header (79').
Lustenau tried everything in the final stages, but a Grabher shot was only just blocked by Diarra (83'). Stefano Surdanovic slipped when taking a promising free-kick in the 95th minute. This did not make the "Mission Impossible" any easier for the bottom-placed team, who have not won seven times in a row.
