No criminal offense
Investigations against young socialists discontinued
The investigation against the chairwoman of the Socialist Youth, Sonja Kopf, and her deputy Alex Rauter for "incitement to commit terrorist offenses" has been dropped. However, their expulsion from the party is not yet off the table.
The two leaders of the Socialist Youth Vorarlberg (SJ) would have faced up to two years in prison if they had been tried and convicted. Sonja Kopf is therefore relieved that the case has been dropped.
The bone of contention was a social media post by the SJ in which Kopf and Rauter had spoken out in defense of Gaza. The position of the two had also caused great displeasure within the Vorarlberg SPÖ and the convening of arbitration proceedings.
Under the chairmanship of former SPÖ state leader Gabi Sprickler-Falschlunger, a decision is to be made as to whether the duo will be expelled for behavior that is detrimental to the party.
"The proceedings are still open," Sprickler-Falschlunger confirmed in response to a Krone inquiry. After consulting with lawyers, she had waited for the investigations by the public prosecutor's office. As this has now been closed, she will get in touch with the assessors and then set a date.
The hopes of some party functionaries that the top of the SJ would move to the Communists have not yet been fulfilled. There are also no signs of the SJ's position moving away - on the contrary.
Position unchanged
It is becoming clearer from day to day that our position against the oppression of the Palestinians was and is the correct one, according to a statement from the SJ. "We oppose the hypocritical position of the Austrian federal government, which actively supports the genocide, fuels racism and division and is also actively working to criminalize solidarity with the Palestinians in this country with directives from the Ministry of Justice."
