Schlager revival
Young generation celebrates the music of their parents
Jokl and Charly Brunner probably didn't expect this. 30 years after their first number 1, this very hit is once again a smash. The West Styrian pop band Nordwand is behind this revival of the year.
The great pop stars of the 80s and 90s are experiencing a real revival and are more popular than ever with the younger generation. People dance to Claudia Jung and Roland Kaiser, celebrate the legendary hits of Wolfgang Petry and Marianne Rosenberg, and Howard Carpendale, the Flippers and the Paldauer are always on the DJ wish list.
What used to be considered the music of parents and grandparents is now celebrating a revival: the younger generation is having fun with pop hits with great potential for reminiscing about the supposedly good old days. For many young people, pop music is more than just a music genre.
That's why young people love pop music
It is an attitude to life that is associated with joy, fun and positive energy. Themes such as love and friendship are touching, and the catchy melodies invite you to sing and dance along. In other words, the perfect music for the lightness of being. Even as children, the Nordwand musicians Wolfgang and Chris were big fans of Brunner & Brunner, who were celebrated as a pop hit machine in the 1990s.
The pop duo Jokl & Charly Brunner won countless awards and sold millions of records with their perfectly coordinated brotherly voices and catchy pop melodies. So why not draw on this hit potential 30 years later!
The next generation of Schlager, "Nordwand", did it with the Murau Schlager brothers' first hit "Schenk mir diese eine Nacht" and hit the jackpot. "We play the cover version at least twice in our live concerts. Older and younger people can't get enough of it," says singer Wolfi, underlining the great idea of re-recording the cult hit with lively dance beats. "It has become one of our biggest hits."
The magic of the great Brunner & Brunner hits
Jokl Brunner gave the young musicians a helping hand with the production and singing. "I wanted to pass on the magic of Brunner & Brunner's success to the young musicians," emphasizes Jokl Brunner, who at the age of 50 has made the leap away from the bizarre world of hits and completely retired from the business. Philosophizing with friends and writing books brings the Murau native more joie de vivre.
The 66-year-old is amazed to hear about the big hit revival and remembers his own heyday. "I was often ridiculed back then because I spent a whole year working on an album. But as you can see now, this passion has paid off when, 30 years later, our music and lyrics still touch people emotionally and have great hit potential." Charly Brunner has a similar view: "The quality still holds up today, no living room production of today can keep up".
More cover versions planned
The music project Nordwand feat. Jokl Brunner was supposed to take place on big TV stages, but this plan came to nothing. Jokl Brunner's vocal part was also removed. Nevertheless, the West Styrian Schlager band Nordwand is still riding this wave of success. We have added the two Brunner & Brunner hits "Shanana" and "Cabriolet" to the cover list, confirms Wolfi Birnstingl, who revisits a tricky love story from his early youth with the current Nordwand song "Er oder ich". "Chris and I have been great friends since our youth. We even loved the same girlfriend back then without knowing it. When a third person came into the picture, the bizarre threesome was over," laughs the father of two daughters, who really wanted to get on the "Silbereisen Show" with this hit episode. Unfortunately too late. Florian Silbereisen has already made this topic a hit with Thomas Anders.
