The shock for the firefighter’s family is profound
A 28-year-old firefighter in the district of St. Pölten lost his life during an operation. He and his 17-year-old comrade, who was seriously injured, were thrown out of the car and trapped by it. A crisis intervention team has been called in and the provincial fire brigade association wants to provide as much support as possible.
The shock is deep, the sympathy for the tragic accident involving the Neustift-Innermanzing fire department in the district of St. Pölten is huge: in a long left-hand bend, the 28-year-old driver lost control of the HLF2 forest fire engine, which weighed several tons, and with it his life.
The emergency vehicle overturned and trapped him and a 17-year-old comrade, who was seriously injured.
Dedicated and very active member
"He was a dedicated comrade and was also active in the forest fire group," emphasizes fire department spokesperson Klaus Stebal. The victim's father and brother are also members of the almost 80-strong fire brigade. The entire Floriani family is deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic loss. The 28-year-old was single and the regional fire brigade association wants to provide the best possible support to his family during this difficult time.
The 17-year-old was flown to hospital by emergency helicopter. His life is not believed to be in danger. The injuries of four other members of the fire department were treated on site, and a crisis intervention team is active.
