3:2 at Sturm II
What a show of strength from FC Dornbirn
The Red Shirts were 2-0 down after just four minutes at Sturm Graz Amateuren. But then Dornbirn's miracle run continued and the final score was 3:2. The window of opportunity to stay in the league thus got a little bigger again.
The Dornbirn team had actually lost their way against Sturm II very early on. The Red Shirts were 2-0 down after just four minutes, before they had really got on the pitch. It looked as if the run of success was coming to an end after five games without defeat - four of which were victories.
And just a few months ago, the team from Dornbirn would certainly not have been able to turn a game like this around. But now, with the confidence they had built up in recent rounds, they managed it in Graz. Anteo Fetahu scored the equalizer soon after the start of the second half, and hope began to germinate again.
Dornbirn pressed and soon pinned the home side back. However, it took a while before they managed to equalize. Raul Marte benefited from an extended ball into the sixteen, shot on the half-volley with his weaker right foot and his perfectly struck shot found its way through many legs into the net.
And coach Eric Orie's team didn't even have to score the winning goal themselves in the end. A 70-metre ball from the Dornbirn defence into the Sturm penalty area was headed into his own goal by defender Mustafic, who headed it over his goalkeeper Bignetti. The Messestadt team naturally celebrated the goal as if it were their own and then took the three points home with aplomb. "It's hard to believe, I almost fell over on the touchline," said coach Orie after the game, "it's amazing what our boys are capable of at the moment!"
Hoping for St. Pölten
And today everything could be completely open again in League Two. After Dornbirn were 13 points behind the non-relegation places a few weeks ago, it could be just one today - provided St. Pölten win their home game against Stripfing. "We will continue to work hard to keep our chances alive," promised Orie. "My team now has the power to see it through to the end. It's fun to watch them. They certainly won't let themselves down now, I know that."
