1600 kilometers on foot to Paris. With this mission, model Martina Gleissenebner-Teskey wants to draw attention to sustainability in the fashion industry. Linz-based designer Gottfried Birklbauer is walking at least a little way with her.
Thirty years ago, I made a red silk dress for a customer for a ball, and now her granddaughter has called and said she wants her grandmother to re-sew the dress so that she can wear it too. You don't throw away made-to-measure clothes. And it's nice to hear when they are passed on," says designer Gottfried Birklbauer. The topic of sustainability has arrived in fashion. Martina Gleissenebner-Teskey is also committed to this.
52-year-old model with a mission
The lady who came third in the "Best Ager" category on "Germany's Next Top Model" two years ago and is now setting a strong example. Together, the Linz native is walking 1600 kilometers to Paris. Where the haute couture show will take place on June 24. "I was already modeling in the 90s, but at some point it was pretty pointless for me. After that, I worked in a completely different field for many years. Until I got hooked on modeling again in 2022. Today, I mainly want to inspire people. I did a big campaign for Marc Cain and earned really well. But fashion is one of the areas that wastes the most resources," says the 52-year-old.
"I have to use my fame wisely"
Gleissenebner-Teskey started her mission from Klosterneuburg on April 21. "I walk around 30 kilometers every day." On the hike to her next stop in Wels, she is accompanied by Gottfried Birklbauer. "I've seen what people do who aren't well known. I am also recognized abroad. I think you have to take advantage of that. Hopefully I can draw a lot of people with me. I should make the 1600 kilometers by 22 June and arrive in Paris."
