SKN ladies disappointed
“We deserved to play in the stadium”
Just two years ago, St. Pölten's footballers broke the attendance record in the league against Sturm Graz, attracting 1700 fans to the NV-Arena. On Friday, the "Wolves" once again had to make do with the bleak sports center as the venue for their championship clash with the Styrians. Which coach Liese Brancao did not like at all.
"We would have deserved to play in the stadium," said Brancao, whose team can't or won't afford the rent in the arena. "If we can't, then we'll just have to get support from the country. That's all we can achieve." In other words: to celebrate eight championship titles in a row. In future, help will come from a cooperation partner in America. "Rush Soccer", the largest youth club in the world, is set to attract numerous youngsters to St. Pölten. "That's worth its weight in gold for us. We are no longer the club that develops players and then has to give them away," SKN has made a name for itself in European women's soccer. "I hope that we can take the next step with them."
On to the sporting side: After a weak phase, which according to Brancao was also due to the upheaval, St. Pölten are back on course for the double. On Friday, Mateja Zver scored their team to a 1:0 win against Sturm. The lead over their closest rivals Altach, who face Vienna today, is seven points, at least temporarily. "The league is more exciting than ever. There will be no more runaway wins."
