For dementia patients
Local enables families to “meet like they used to”
For people with dementia and their relatives, everyday things like going to a restaurant can be a strain. That doesn't have to be the case, thought the head chef of Haus Döbling: "People with dementia also enjoy pleasurable moments, but unfortunately there is often a lack of opportunities." The restaurant "Zum Augenblick", which will open in mid-May, will create just such an opportunity.
Whether it's a candlelight dinner with a loved one or a family meal with parents, grandma and grandpa: guests can spend a wonderful, relaxed evening here with an upscale menu at moderate prices. "What sets the restaurant apart from a conventional restaurant is the holistic approach of Häuser zum Leben, which combines care, support and gastronomy," says Karin Eder, the dementia expert at Häuser zum Leben. Six people are always discreetly in the background in case of need.
Relatives are very grateful for the new service. "We used to enjoy going to the Heurigen with the whole family. Unfortunately, that has stopped since my mother developed dementia. We are delighted that this is now possible again," says Manfred Forster, whose mother lives in Haus Döbling.
"We face many challenges when visiting a regular restaurant. If my father behaves a little differently in a "normal" restaurant - for example, today he happily whistles a tune between courses - you immediately get the feeling that the other guests will feel disturbed. We are therefore very pleased that this option is now available at the Häuser zum Leben," says Beatrix Ebner, daughter of a resident.
After a test phase, the restaurant will also be open to external visitors in selected houses to live in.
