Newly crowned second division champions Mattersburg challenge "almost" Burgenlandliga champions Siegendorf to a cup dance! The stands in the Pappelstadion are likely to be packed again on Tuesday (7pm).

After a long time, Burgenland's soccer is back at Mattersburg's Pappelstadion today. The BFV Cup semi-final will be a clash of the invincibles: Both the home side, who finally secured the 2nd division title on Saturday, and Siegendorf, who can hardly be denied the Burgenlandliga title, have yet to lose a competitive match this season!

"It will be a soccer festival for all the fans," says MSV coach Josef Kühbauer, whose team already has Parndorf and Pinkafeld on its list of Cup contenders - a duel at eye level? "No, you have to be honest - if we play them ten times, we'll probably lose nine times." Postscript: "But maybe it's just this one game..."

I had a great time in Siegendorf, but unfortunately corona stopped us on our way to the championship title.

It hurts that captain Lukas Grimmer is out for this one. "But we'll be brave," says Kühbauer, who has also coached Siegendorf: "A great time, a great club, but unfortunately Corona messed us up - otherwise we would have been promoted back then."

Siegendorf are warned
With an eight-point lead, there seems to be no question that Siegendorf will do so for the second time in three years this year - even if coach Nikolaus Schilhan cautions: "We have nothing to celebrate yet, a lot can happen in six rounds." However, he accepts the role of favorites in Mattersburg: "We are playing higher - but we are warned and will have to be on our guard." In any case, he and his team are looking forward to playing in front of a proud crowd at the Pappelstadion, taking the competition "100 percent seriously. We want the double!" The second semi-final will take place on May 20 between SK Pama and Draßburg, with the final to be played on May 30.
