How does the ÖFB react?
Report: Ralf Rangnick wants to join Bayern
On the sidelines of the Champions League clash between Munich and Real Madrid on Tuesday, Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund revealed that the new coach of the German record champions will be presented "in the next two or three weeks" at the latest. According to a report, top favorite Ralf Rangnick has already signaled that he would like to move to Bayern.
As the "Bild" newspaper reported online late on Tuesday evening, the current ÖFB team boss "has expressed his willingness in principle to take over the record champions as their new coach from the summer", according to the article. Talks are to be intensified today.
Problem: According to Bild, Bayern have not yet reached an agreement with the ÖFB and Rangnick's contract still runs until 2026. "The Austrians are also fighting for Rangnick, want to keep him or only let him go in the event of a high transfer fee," writes the newspaper.
Concession out of gratitude?
Bayern are apparently hoping for a concession from the Austrian FA when it comes to the compensation. After all, ex-Salzburg sporting director Freund is said to have arranged Rangnick for the ÖFB in 2022. "Refusing to release the coach now would be seen as ungrateful in Munich," writes Bild.
We'll know more in three weeks at the latest ...
