Action in front of parliament
Climate campaigners start protest days in front of parliament
The climate activists of the Last Generation started their announced protest days in front of the parliament in Vienna on Saturday. Around 150 participants were on site.
The starting signal for the event, which is to be the prelude to the protest days in May, was given at 10 am. But not only climate activists had gathered in front of the parliament.
Trying out adhesive bonding
Several stations were set up where people could try their hand at gluing or making banners, for example.
In addition to the stations, the program also included a minute's silence - in solidarity with three German climate activists who have been on hunger strike for 58 days. The activists are calling on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to acknowledge the climate crisis.
According to the activists, the large-scale protest will be followed by "peaceful resistance". The risk of an administrative fine is accepted. "Protests will take place in and around Vienna in the following days," a Last Generation spokeswoman told "Krone".
There will be more climate actions throughout May, and not just the use of stickers. There will also be new forms of protest, although the organizers have so far refused to comment on these.
