Fan showed Hitler salute – Rapid files charges!
SK Rapid has clearly distanced itself from an alleged Hitler salute by one of its supporters at the Cup final in Klagenfurt, and has reported and sanctioned the offender, who was identified with the help of the police. The man, who was also seen making racist gestures on a video recording, was banned from the stadium for an indefinite period. Rapid also filed a criminal complaint against him, withdrew his home match ticket and applied to the Bundesliga for a nationwide stadium ban.
"Right-wing extremist behavior has no place at SK Rapid and will always have clear consequences and sanctions. All those responsible at SK Rapid condemn this behavior in the strongest possible terms," the club stated.
Legal action was taken immediately after becoming aware of the video on Monday morning. Rapid also stated that the man was not a member of the club. Following information about the video, the Vienna police reported on Twitter that they had successfully tracked down the man.
Misconduct
The 20-second recording in question, which according to Rapid must have been made last Wednesday in Klagenfurt, shows a person in a green and white outfit with Rapid lettering and a fan scarf in the middle of the Vienna fan block. The man first makes monkey gestures towards a group of people beyond the Rapid area, which is cordoned off by a fence, and then gives the Hitler salute with his right arm raised and outstretched. The presumption of innocence applies to the alleged perpetrator.
Rapid won 2-0 against Red Bull Salzburg on Sunday and are now fourth in the table - an international starting place is therefore within reach for the Hütteldorfer.
