Victory in Paris
Paris Saint-Germain against Dortmund from 9pm LIVE
Borussia Dortmund have reached the Champions League final for the third time in the club's history. BVB celebrated a 1:0 away win against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday with Marcel Sabitzer in the semi-final second leg thanks to a goal from Mats Hummels (50') and advanced to the final with an aggregate score of 2:0.
On June 1 at London's Wembley Stadium, they will face either Real Madrid or FC Bayern Munich. The first clash between the two clubs ended 2-2 in Munich the previous week, with the return match taking place on Wednesday.
PSG in aluminum pitch
Dortmund, who were lucky with a total of four PSG aluminum goals, made it to the final of the "premier class" for the third time. In 1997, Juventus Turin were defeated 3:1, and in 2013 they lost 2:1 to Bayern with David Alaba at Wembley. With Sabitzer, at least one Austrian has a chance of winning the most coveted club trophy in London's iconic stadium this time too. Konrad Laimer could also make it to the final with Bayern, while Alaba would miss out if Real reach the final due to his cruciate ligament rupture.
For Paris, on the other hand, the wait is still on, with the Qatar-sponsored French champions still chasing their first Champions League title. Although the hosts set the tone from the start, they failed to create any compelling chances for a long time. The most dangerous move before the break came from Dortmund. Karim Adeyemi picked up the ball in a transition situation in his own half and ran into the PSG box, only for his shot to be stopped by goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (35').
Parisians asleep at a corner
After the break, the Parisians took a brisker approach, with Warren Zaire-Emery hitting the bar from close range (47'). A short time later, the home side missed their final chance due to a blackout at a set-piece. Julian Brandt delivered a corner to the middle and Hummels was able to head in unchallenged in the five-man box. The Germans then defended their lead skilfully, with Kylian Mbappe and his colleagues coming up with little or nothing - it was telling that the best chance to equalize for a long time came from a long-range shot from Nuno Mendes that hit the bar (61'). The Parisians' final offensive then brought back goals from Mbappe (86') and Vitinha (87').
Sabitzer, who was cautioned with a yellow card in the 64th minute, played through for the winners and impressed with his running and diligence in defense. The 30-year-old Styrian is set for his first Champions League final - in 2020, he and RB Leipzig were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals. This also means that Sabitzer will miss the ÖFB team's EURO training camp in Windischgarsten, which begins at the end of May. The midfielder is also unlikely to be available for the test match against Serbia in Vienna on June 4.
