Upheaval in Leoben: Second division club reorganizes
The second division soccer club DSV Leoben is reorganizing itself. Chairman Mario Bichler announced his resignation at a press conference on Wednesday and German Sascha Gulevski was presented as his successor. The club from Upper Styria also appointed a new sports director in Thomas Janeschitz. Meanwhile, the contract with coach Carsten Jancker was extended beyond the summer until the end of the coming season.
"For me, this is no longer acceptable in human terms. The situation in December, the media coverage, the anonymous complaint - that triggered an avalanche," said Bichler, explaining his departure. At the end of the previous year, the media had reported that Leoben was suspected of money laundering and corruption, but the club denied this.
The 57-year-old Janeschitz was coach at league rivals Dornbirn until January 2024 and is now setting up camp in Leoben. Coach Jancker only surprisingly returned to the bench of the current third-placed team at the beginning of April, having previously been dismissed in August 2023.
No permission to play
The club is currently struggling with other problems off the pitch. At the end of April, the Leobeners were denied admission to the second division by the protest committee for financial reasons, meaning the club is still without a match license for the coming season. However, the club has announced that it will take the matter to the Permanent Court of Neutral Arbitration.
