Real: The “new” Kroos is probably also a German
He has been one of the guarantors of Bayer Leverkusen's brilliant season so far: Florian Wirtz. The German international is therefore highly coveted by Europe's top teams. According to a report, Real Madrid are planning to sign the 21-year-old next year ...
As reported by "Sport Bild" on Wednesday, the Spanish champions want to extend the expiring contract of midfield strategist Toni Kroos by one year this year and lure his compatriot Wirtz to Madrid in 2025.
Wirtz still has a contract until 2027
The 21-year-old still has a contract with German champions Leverkusen until 2027, but it is highly unlikely that he will fulfill it. Wirtz is not only a difference-maker at Bayer, but also the hope of the German national team at the upcoming home European Championships in the summer.
Curiously, Kroos had already speculated a few months ago that Wirtz could soon be seen in Real kit. "I think he could fit in," the German told the newspaper Marca when asked about the future of his national team colleague.
Leverkusen boss Fernando Carro recently caused a stir when he said that the club would be willing to discuss a possible transfer fee of 150 million. He later rowed back and said: "He doesn't actually have a price tag."
