German group takes over Sport 2000 in Austria

Last year, the purchasing cooperative of Sport 2000 retailers caused the largest insolvency in Upper Austria in terms of debt. In the meantime, the Ohlsdorf-based company has not only managed to restructure itself. A very important course has now also been set for the future.

An important course has been set for Zentrasport Austria: at an extraordinary general meeting on Thursday, the specialist retailer group decided to become part of the German ANWR GROUP eG and the Sport 2000 national association.

"With currently 150 financially strong retailers rated by an external bank, our sports retail group Sport 2000 is still a strong player in the Austrian sports retail sector. The merger with ANWR not only provides financial security, but also opens up numerous opportunities through the use of cross-border synergies," says Sport 2000 Austria CEO Holger Schwarting.

"Adapt even faster than before"
The Sport 2000 country network currently includes Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Belgium. "We have already restructured the Sport 2000 Austria organization during the restructuring process. That was a challenging process. Thanks to the restructuring-related streamlining, we are now more agile and able to adapt to changes and market requirements even faster than before," says Schwarting.
