Not a door opener

New medical center is not completely barrier-free

Because the entrance door cannot be opened electronically, it is not easy for patients to enter the primary care center in Leonding. One wheelchair user complained to the Krone that he had to hope every time that someone would open the door for him. But a solution is in sight.

Irrsinning: "The whole building is barrier-free, but I can't get in!" Gerhart Keplinger is furious. The 77-year-old is confined to his electric wheelchair and has to attend weekly physiotherapy sessions at the primary care center in Leonding.

Minutes in the cold
The problem: "The door is difficult to open, there is no electric door opener. I can't get it open from my wheelchair," says Keplinger. "In winter, I often had to wait several minutes for someone to help me." The Giwog cooperative built the primary care center, which opened last year, and is still responsible for managing the building.

Solution to come soon
The building owners have already addressed the problem: "The ground floor will be renovated in May because a new party is moving in," says Giwog CEO Wolfgang Moderer. "In the course of this, I will also take a look at the door with Mr. Keplinger and, if necessary, arrange for an electric door opener to be installed, as I have already informed him."

No more waiting
The 77-year-old will hopefully soon be able to attend his weekly appointments without having to wait outside the door for help every time.
