Popular climbing tree in the spa garden toppled over

It was a victim of the huge amounts of snow at the weekend: The trumpet tree behind Mirabell Palace, which is popular with families and has already been supported, has fallen over. But it is not dead yet!

Walkers are familiar with this landmark in Salzburg's Kurgarten: the tall old trumpet tree between Mirabell Palace and the Kongresshaus has been a popular climbing spot for children in recent decades. It was already supported, but the masses of snow on Friday and Saturday did the rest for the climbing tree.

It toppled under the weight. Employees of the municipal gardens cut off parts of the tree on Monday to ensure the safety of park visitors. But the fallen tree is not quite over yet. The hope is that the remainder will sprout again. And: the probability is not so small. The climbing tree, which is popular with young and old alike, could not withstand the heavy snow load caused by the heavy snowfall at the weekend and toppled over.

To ensure the safety of park visitors, the Stadtgärten team now has to remove parts of the tree. But, says City Gardens boss Christian Stadler: "The tree hasn't died yet. Christian Stadler, head of Stadtgärten, says: "The hope is that the rest will sprout again. And: the probability is not that small."
