Who will make the provisional ÖFB European Championship squad?

Team boss Ralf Rangnick announced the large squad for the EURO in Germany this summer on Tuesday evening. 29 players are allowed to go to the preparation camp. In addition to David Alaba (cruciate ligament rupture), Alexander Schlager (meniscus) has also lost the race against time - for the time being.

With Thierno Ballo, a "team baby" (never before with the senior team), Heinz Lindner and Gernot Trauner, two returnees who have been out for a long time (both last played in April 2023) - that's team boss Ralf Rangnick's 29-man squad for the EURO preparation camp; he will have to cut three players by June 7 at the latest, as a maximum of 26 players can be named for the tournament in Germany.

Everyone has a chance
With opportunities for all those who have been called up, "Bachelor" Rangnick has not yet allocated his roses: "Nobody knows whether he will be there or a replacement. We'll have to see how things look up until June 7, some of them were injured or haven't played for a while. But even those who can't be there in the end should gain experience at the training camp".

Rangnick is still leaving everything open, also because goalkeeper Alexander Schlager remains a question mark after his meniscus operation: "There is a bit of hope for him. It's not possible for the training camp, not even for the first EURO game against France, but maybe afterwards," said the team boss. It is therefore possible that four goalkeepers and 22 outfield players will be at the EURO, but it is also possible that only three keepers and 23 outfield players will be there.

The team boss on the squad: "We have included those who we believe will bring our soccer to the pitch in the best possible way".

On June 4 (in Vienna against Serbia) and June 8 (in St. Gallen against Switzerland) there are two test matches for the Austrian national team.

Alaba on board as a "link"
ÖFB captain David Alaba, who will not be able to play at the EURO due to a cruciate ligament rupture, will support the team from the outside in preparation and during the tournament and will be close to the team as a "link", as Rangnick announced at the press conference.
